Before Today

This performance deals with immigration and power structures around the world. In the beginning of the evening Tsuchimoto acted as a strict border control officer, collecting information about the audience. Those with a local passport was selected and categorized. Later on, half of the stage got blocked, separating outsiders from insiders. The artist herself was stuck in-between the two groups. With her back against the locals she performed an “act of sadness”, facing other travelers. This was a piece about double exclusion and para-identities. In the confusing freedom of time-space collapse, Hiroko personalized the sweet agony of being homesick.
